European Federation of Saint James Way
Overview
Pilgrims have walked the Ways of St. James since the 9th century, heading toward the tomb of the apostle in Santiago de Compostela. The European Federation of the Ways of St. James looks after this cultural route across the countries it crosses, and wanted to give modern pilgrims a companion for the journey without losing what makes it meaningful.
Codepoint built a mobile app, back office, and API to do exactly that, giving the Federation a digital pocket guide for one of Europe's oldest pilgrimages.
Key capabilities
- Route information covering history, distance, difficulty, and the towns and points of interest along the way
- Live maps showing the pilgrim's position, chosen route, and nearby points of interest
- A digital credential where pilgrims collect stamps for each place visited and scan QR codes for details, working toward the Federation's official certification
- A personal profile for account details and saved favourites
- A content management system so each participating country can keep its own route information current
Since launch, Codepoint has stayed on to maintain the platform, keeping the app, back office, and API running and up to date as more pilgrims take on the route each year.
